I received the assessment on my essay. And before I could see anything else, I saw the professor’s feedback written in red that said, “Your entire essay is based on a few points which are repeated over and over. Revise it.”

• Describe
• Discuss

And so on…

Each of the given command verbs tells what you need to do.

For example, “Evaluate” means to judge the worth, truth, or quality of an idea by weighing its strong and weak points.

“Analyse” means to break the topic into its core components, examine how those individual parts work, and explain their relationships to one another.

“Describe” means to give a detailed account, set out the main characteristics or features, and paint a clear picture of the topic without needing to argue or explain why it happens.

My research topic was clear when I started working. I was looking for different women’s rights movements.
